| Note | <p><p>He and his younger brother and sister were orphaned by their mother's death in 1825 in Surabaya on Java at the ages of 15, 12 and 9. Their father had died in 1821 on Amboina. The two boys apparently finished their growing up separately, our ancestor WILHELMUS JACOBUS joining the Military and the younger boy Cornelis being apprenticed in the Customs bureaucracy. There seems to have been no contact between the two brothers and their families over the years. His entry in the Cheribon Registry of Deaths lists our ancestor's parents as 'unknown'. His younger brother Cornelis, on the other hand, married into two prominent families and has a pedigree and descendant list recorded by the IGV longer than my arm.
